De vernieuwing van de zeedijk in Westende is gefaseerd uitgevoerd tussen 2021 en 2023, met de feestelijke inhuldiging van de nieuwe, groene zeedijk en golfdempende uitbouw (GDU) op 24 juni 2023. Het project is onderdeel van het masterplan voor de kustverdediging. Het omvat een combinatie van een grasdijk en een 'harde' golfdempende uitbouw-dijk voor betere bescherming en een verfraaide promenade.
Tussen de 2 promenades is een botanische tuin aangelegd met specifieke kust- en zoutminnende planten.
