Rüttenscheid is een stadsdeel van de stad Essen. Gelegen ten zuiden van het stadscentrum, grenst het aan de stadsdelen Holsterhausen, Margarethenhöhe, Bredeney, Stadtwald, Bergerhausen, Huttrop en aan het Zuidviertel. De grenzen van Rüttenscheid lopen in het noorden van de Albrechtstraße over de Kahrstraße, verder over de Witteringstraße tot aan de Rellinghauser Straße. In het oosten langs de Rellinghauser Straße tot aan de A 52. Van daar langs de A 52, inclusief het zuidelijk van de snelweg gelegen bedrijventerrein Langenbrahm, tot het einde van het Grugapark. In het westen vormt de Külshammerweg/Virchowstraße tot aan de Krawehlstraße/Brunostraße de grens.
