In de Eifel ligt tussen de uitgestrekte bossen een gigantische radiotelescoop. De schotel heeft een doorsnede van 100 meter. Hiermee is de radiotelescoop een van de grootste beweegbare radiotelescopen ter wereld. Het "Radio-Observatorium Effelsberg" ligt ten oosten van het toeristenstadje Bad Munstereifel en vlakbij het dorpje Effelsberg.
