Burg Pfalzgrafenstein is een uniek kasteel dat midden in de Rijn ligt, tegenover het plaatsje Kaub in Duitsland. In tegenstelling tot de meeste kastelen in de regio staat dit fort niet op een heuvel, maar op een klein eiland, wat het een bijzonder en schilderachtig aanzicht geeft.
Het kasteel werd in de 14e eeuw gebouwd in opdracht van de Paltsgraaf van de Rijn. Het diende vooral als tolburcht, waar schepen moesten stoppen om belasting te betalen voor het gebruik van de rivier. Dankzij zijn ligging kon men de Rijn volledig controleren en was het fort moeilijk aan te vallen.
