De tram van Rostock is, samen met de tram in Schwerin, nog het enige bestaande tramnet in de Duitse deelstaat Mecklenburg-Voor-Pommeren. Het net is heden ten dage 35,6 kilometer lang en telt 140 haltes. De eerste tram reed in 1881 in de binnenstad die later ook het centrum van het net zou worden. Tot 2006 werd het net steeds verder uitgebreid zodat de bus nog slechts voor de helft van het verkeer instaat.
Sinds 1992 kwamen er lagevloertrams in dienst. Ondertussen zijn alle ritten toegankelijk, ook voor minder mobiele reizigers.
