Bouwheer en eigenaar is de Carbonaria Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH & Co., waaraan op zijn beurt de Commerz Real Asset Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH en de Hannover Leasing GmbH & Co. KG participeren. De exploitatie vindt plaats onder de bedrijfsbeheermaatschappij KBS Kokereibetriebsgesellschaft Schwelgern GmbH, die 309 werknemers van de voormalige cokesfabriek August Thyssen in dienst heeft. De belangrijkste afnemer van de hier geproduceerde cokes is de naburige ThyssenKrupp-staalfabriek Schwelgern. Sinds mei 2020 is de KBS samengevoegd met ThyssenKrupp. Sindsdien is ThyssenKrupp eigenaar en exploitant van de cokesfabriek Schwelgern.
