The client and owner is Carbonaria Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH & Co., in which Commerz Real Asset Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH and Hannover Leasing GmbH & Co. KG hold shares. Operations are carried out under the management company KBS Kokereibetriebsgesellschaft Schwelgern GmbH, which belongs to ThyssenKrupp and employs 309 people at the former August Thyssen coking plant. The main buyer of the coke produced here is the neighboring ThyssenKrupp steelworks in Schwelgern. KBS merged with ThyssenKrupp in May 2020. Since then, ThyssenKrupp has been the owner and operator of the Schwelgern coking plant.
