Het huis Kickley werd door Otto Hoesch, lid van de Dürense industriële familie Hoesch in Rath, naar plannen van Paul Darius gebouwd en als weekendverblijf gebruikt. Na de dood van Otto Hoesch halverwege de jaren zestig werd het landgoed te koop aangeboden. Begin jaren zeventig verwierf Jean Löring, voormalig voetballer, ondernemer en president van de voetbalclub SC Fortuna Köln, het kasteelachtige huis Kickley. Het landgoed werd in de tijd van Löring voor representatieve doeleinden gebruikt en verkreeg vanwege de talrijke prominente gasten en evenementen een zekere bekendheid.
