Neuwerk behoort tot de plaats Höhlenort Rübeland van de stad Oberharz am Brocken in de Landkreis Harz in Saksen-Anhalt.
Karakteristiek voor het beeld van de plaats zijn zowel de aan de helling van het Bodetal gebouwde huizen als de markante toren van de voormalige dorpsschool met historisch uurwerk. Van het ooit belangrijke mijnbouwplaats getuigen vandaag de dag het smedenplein met oude smeden gebouwen en de vele greppels voor het gebruik van waterkracht. Deze greppels zijn gedeeltelijk in de recentste verleden weer bruikbaar gemaakt en worden nu opnieuw gebruikt voor de opwekking van stroom met behulp van waterkracht. Een verdere bijzonderheid is de hoogste spoorwegviaduct van Noord-Duitsland in het Kreuztal.
