In de Slag bij Lübeck ontmoetten op 6 november 1806 tijdens de Vierde Coalitieoorlog de troepen van Pruisen en Frankrijk elkaar.
Na de Slag bij Jena en Auerstedt slaagde generaal Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher erin om met een troep van ongeveer 10.000 man vanuit Brandenburg in noordwestelijke richting te trekken. In Mecklenburg voegden de eenheden van hertog Karl August van Weimar zich daarbij, zodat Blüchers strijdmacht uiteindelijk ongeveer 21.000 soldaten telde. Nauwkeurige gegevens over de sterkte van Blüchers troepen ontbreken echter vanwege de chaotische toestanden.
