De plaats met rond de 100 inwoners ligt in het oosten van het eiland, op zo'n kilometer van de Oostzee en drie kilometer van de hoofdplaats Burg op Fehmarn. Aan het Klausdorfer Strand is er een camping met ongeveer 450 plaatsen.
De voorzieningen in het dorp worden gewaarborgd door een hofwinkel, waaraan een café is verbonden. Voor het lokaal vervoer is er de burgerbus, die Klausdorf met de naburige dorpen verbindt. Door het dorp loopt de 1055 m lange Oostzeekustroute. Het scheepswrak en de zeegrasgebieden zijn een populair duikgebied. Aan de steile kust wordt er surfvissen beoefend.
