Deze poort werd door de Romeinen aan het eind van de tweede eeuw (rond 180 na Chr.) gebouwd. Het is de noordelijke stadspoort. De goed bewaarde poort (zesendertig meter breed; dertig hoog) maakte deel uit van een zes kilometer lange stadsmuur. Het vormt de duidelijkste herinnering aan de Romeinse tijd. Hij dankt zijn naam van zwarte poort aan het verweerde zandsteen.
