Het natuurreservaat Ruhrtal tussen Olsberg en Assinghausen met een oppervlakte van 48,4 ha ligt ten zuiden van Olsberg tot Assinghausen in de Hochsauerlandkreis. Het gebied werd in 2001 door de Bezirksregierung Arnsberg als natuurreservaat aangewezen. Het gebied werd in 2004 opnieuw aangewezen als NSG met het landschapplan Olsberg door de Hochsauerlandkreis. De Ruhr in het NSG maakt sinds 2004 ook deel uit van het Fauna-Flora-Habitat-gebied Ruhr in het Europese beschermingssysteem volgens Natura 2000.
