Het natuurreservaat Dhünnaue ligt in het gemeentegebied van Odenthal in de Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis. Het beslaat het verloop van de Dhünn in vier deelgebieden op het traject van Bergisch Gladbach, wijk Hoverhof tot de stadsgrens van Wermelskirchen ten noordoosten van Altenberg.
In het natuurreservaat komen de in bijlage I van de Habitatrichtlijn vermelde levensgemeenschappen van elzen-essen- en zachtehouten oeverbossen, hainsimsen-beukenbossen en zomereiken-haarbos voor. In de Dhünn zijn populaties van de in bijlage II van de Habitatrichtlijn beschermde soorten rivierneushoorn, beekneushoorn en groppe aanwezig.
