1444 voor het eerst genoemd. De molen met poortgebouw vormt de afsluiting van de Hoge Vrijheid naar de Lage Vrijheid. Als krachtcentrale uitgebreid, diende het gebouw in noodtijden ter bescherming van het kasteel. In 1910 werd het waterrad vervangen door een turbine. In 1963 ging de molen door aankoop van graaf Landsberg in eigendom van de familie Beyer over. Tot het einde van de jaren '60 was er molenbedrijf, daarna alleen nog landhandel. Sinds 1999 dient de molen alleen nog voor woon doeleinden. Wanneer we het poortgebouw zijn gepasseerd, betreedt we het gebied van de Hoge Vrijheid.
