Kreis Dithmarschen is een Kreis in de Duitse deelstaat Sleeswijk-Holstein. De Kreis telt 133.251 inwoners op een oppervlakte van 1.404,75 km². Kreisstadt is Heide.
Dithmarschen heeft tot in de 16e eeuw een geheel eigen geschiedenis gekend. Feitelijk was het gebied een autonome Boerenrepubliek die aan geen enkele Heer in Duitsland onderworpen was. Ook nadat het uiteindelijk zijn zelfstandigheid verloor, bleef het een op zich zelf gerichte plattelandssamenleving waar steden eigenlijk niet voorkwamen.
