Salamanca is een Spaanse stad, de hoofdstad van de gelijknamige provincie. Het behoort tot het Leonesische deel van de autonome gemeenschap Castilië en León en was historisch gezien geïntegreerd in het koninkrijk León. In 2002 had het 156.006 inwoners. Er is de oudste universiteit van Spanje. De stad ligt op een hoogvlakte aan de oever van de rivier Tormes, die wordt gekruist door een brug met 26 bogen, vijftien daarvan van Romeinse oorsprong, terwijl de rest uit de zestiende eeuw dateert.
