Calar Alto is de hoogste piek in de Sierra de Los Filabres, een bergketen in Andalusië, Spanje. Het is ook de hoogste piek in de genoemde bergketen.
Het herbergt de Calar Alto astronomische observatorium, dat profiteert
van twee aspecten van het klimaat in de regio: de droge atmosfeer vermindert de beperkingen die atmosferische waterdamp toevoegt aan de transmissiekarakteristieken van het zien door
de atmosfeer, en het lage aantal bewolkte nachten draagt mooi bij
aan de efficiëntie van observaties gedurende het jaar.
