Kasteel van Romeinse oorsprong, veroverd door de Arabieren en herbouwd in de 13e eeuw. Behoorde toe aan de Orde van Santiago, die zich inspande om het kasteel te behouden.
Het verkeert in een staat van verval. Onder bescherming van de algemene verklaring van het decreet van 22 april 1949, en de wet 16/1985 over het Spaanse Historische Erfgoed.
Het kan het hele jaar door worden bezocht en is vrij toegankelijk.
