De Jardines de la Plaza de las Tortugas is een kleine tuin waar de Fuente de las Tortugas zich bevindt, aan de buitenrand omringd door bittere sinaasappelbomen ( Citrus aurantium ).
In de tuinen van dit Plaza de las Tortugas staat het monument voor de Virgen del Rosario, gebouwd door de stad ter nagedachtenis aan de tsunami van 1755.
De schildpadden rond de fontein worden beschouwd als geluksdieren en staan symbool voor een lang leven en bescherming. Daarom verschijnen schildpadden in een groot aantal tempels en steden
