Soligny-la-Trappe was de plaats waar de abdij La Grande Trappe was. Het is de bakermat van de trappisten, gekend voor hun bier. Het bier werd echter niet hier, maar in België gebrouwen. Vanuit la Trappe werden meerdere kloosters gesticht: Bellefontaine, Timadeuc, Tre Fontane, Echourgnac evenals de abdij van Westmalle.
