De Col de Portet d'Aspet is een bergpas op een hoogte van 1.069 m. In 1995 viel de fietser Fabio Casartelli tijdens de Tour de France van 1995 en verloor zijn leven toen hij met zijn hoofd tegen een paal sloeg. Het ongeluk gebeurde voor de laatste bocht met een helling van 18%. Met verwondingen aan het hoofd bleef hij liggen, en hij overleed op weg naar het ziekenhuis. "Abondon", vermeldde de uitslagenlijst.
