Il Col de Portet d'Aspet è un passo montano a un'altitudine di 1.069 m. Nel 1995 il ciclista Fabio Casartelli cadde durante il Tour de France del 1995 e perse la vita quando colpì un palo con la testa. L'incidente avvenne prima dell'ultima curva con una pendenza del 18%. Con ferite alla testa, rimase a terra e morì mentre veniva trasportato in ospedale. "Abandon", riportava la lista dei risultati.
