Deze cisterciënzerabdij, die oorspronkelijk "Clara Vallis" heette, werd in 1134 gesticht door Sint Bernardus in het hart van het bos van Vauclair. Het gebouw werd gespaard tijdens de Franse Revolutie, maar raakte ernstig beschadigd tijdens de gevechten in de Eerste Wereldoorlog. Vandaag de dag resten alleen nog de ruïnes van de abdij en is er een medicinale plantentuin aangelegd op de plek van de voormalige apotheek.
Tijdens de zomermaanden zijn er in de Salle du Mille Clubs verschillende tentoonstellingen die regelmatig worden bijgewerkt...
En twee jaar geleden werd het gloednieuwe toeristische paviljoen geopend bij de ingang van de site, ontworpen om bezoekers te verwelkomen met een receptie- en interpretatieruimte (gecombineerd met een restaurant, de Guinguette de Vauclair).
