De Ariège is hier zo wild dat de brug enkel kon gebouwd worden met de hulp van de duivel. Die eiste in ruil de ziel van het eerste levende wezen dat de brug overstak. Het was... een hond.
Toch waagden de mensen het niet 's nachts de brug over te steken. De duivel ging dan op zoek naar andere verloren zielen.
In werkelijkheid was dit 13de eeuws bouwwerk een tolbrug waar moest betaald worden om de rivier over te steken.
