De kerk is zeer opmerkelijk; het behoort tot de overgang van romaanse naar gotische stijl en heeft de vorm van een Griekse kruis, zo breed als lang. Acht elegante torentjes geven het de uitstraling van een kasteel. De poort is versierd met prachtige gotische sculpturen. De torenspits die op het gebouw rees, werd in 1574 vernietigd. Auteurs nemen aan dat deze kerk werd gebouwd door de Tempeliers en dat een andere parochiekerk, lang geleden vernietigd, in het midden van de stad stond.
