Bij aankomst in Jumilhac-le-Grand verschijnt het hoge en indrukwekkende silhouet van het Château de Jumilhac achter de kerk Saint-Pierre-Es-Liens. Uw ogen worden onweerstaanbaar getrokken naar de verbazingwekkende renaissance daken van dit 12e eeuwse adellijke hol. Ze zijn versierd met kegels, piramides en allegorische richels met als thema de alchemie en staan bekend als uniek in Europa.
Eenmaal door het voorportaal ontdekt u de vier hoofdgebouwen van het feodale kasteel. Doorloop de kamers en duik in het hart van de 16e en 17e eeuw in de eetkamer met zijn adobe rozetten, de gewelfde keuken met zijn koperwerk of de kleine Louis XV salon en de aangrenzende werkkamer. In de kamer van de "spinner" met zijn raadselachtige muurschilderingen werd een van tedere liefde verdachte dame meer dan twintig jaar door haar jaloerse echtgenoot opgesloten..
