De Esplanade is een tuin in Franse stijl, aangelegd in het begin van de 19e eeuw op de plek van de laatste overblijfselen en grachten van de 16e-eeuwse Citadel. Het biedt een prachtig uitzicht op de Mont Saint Quentin. De nieuwe Place de la République, ingehuldigd in 2010, is ontworpen als een moderne voortzetting van de Esplanade?
