Gebouwd volgens de plannen van de architect Desgranges en ingewijd in 1868 door de bisschop van Metz, Mgr Dupont des Loges. Het is een "neogotisch" gebouw in de vorm van een Latijns kruis dat de voormalige kerken van Sint-Sebastiaan en Sint-Remi verving. De eerste, bekend als de "castrale" kapel, gelegen aan de voet van de Schlossberg, gaf haar naam aan de oude Forbach, de Kappelberg. De voormalige kapel van Sint-Remi bevond zich in de benedenstad, vlakbij de huidige kapel van Onze Lieve Vrouw van Altijddurende Bijstand.
