Sie wurde nach den Plänen des Architekten Desgranges erbaut und 1868 vom Bischof von Metz, Mgr. Dupont des Loges, geweiht. Es handelt sich um ein Gebäude im "neogotischen" Stil in Form eines lateinischen Kreuzes, das die alten Kirchen Saint Sébastien und Saint Rémi ersetzt hat. Die erste, die sogenannte "Kastalkapelle", liegt am Fuße des Schlossbergs und gab dem alten Forbach, dem Kappelberg, seinen Namen. Die ehemalige Kapelle Saint Rémi befand sich in der Unterstadt, in der Nähe der heutigen Kapelle Notre Dame du Perpétuel Secours.
