Het museum biedt bezoekers de kans om onze verre voorouders te ontdekken aan de hand van de overblijfselen die in de gemeente zijn verzameld.
Op initiatief van archeologieliefhebber Michel Gallemard, een leraar met een passie voor archeologie, kon dit kleine museum worden opgericht dankzij werkzaamheden van de gemeente Clugnat in de voormalige pastorie uit de 18e eeuw. Er worden meer dan 300 vuurstenen werktuigen tentoongesteld.
De tentoongestelde voorwerpen getuigen van lokale bewoning die teruggaat tot het Midden-Paleolithicum (300.000 v. Chr.). De meest interessante stukken zijn schrapers, dolken, pijlpunten, gepolijste bijlen, beitels, spitsen, enz. Gallo-Romeinse overblijfselen worden ook tentoongesteld.
