Dit monument is een van de oudste kerken in de Maasvallei; hoewel het zijn romaanse kruisbasiliekplan van zijn Karolingische stichting heeft behouden, is het nu zeer samengesteld: van het preromaanse chevet tot de 18e-eeuwse gevel (let op de asverandering van 3 graden tussen het koor en het transept enerzijds en het schip anderzijds).
