Kunstmatig meer aangelegd tussen de twee oorlogen voor de behoeften van het leger om overtollige munitie onder te dompelen. Dit verklaart de aanleg in 1923 van een spoorlijn om de materialen te vervoeren die nodig waren voor de bouw van de dam en de munitie, maar het project slaagde niet. Tegenwoordig is het de drinkwatervoorraad van de stad Mende. Het meer staat ook bekend om zijn rijke fauna en flora. Dit meer biedt landschappen die de sfeer van de Canadese landen waardig zijn. Het is een ideale plek om te wandelen, te ontdekken en nieuwe energie op te doen met uw gezin, uw partner of uw vrienden.
Wandelaars kunnen de gemarkeerde paden rond het meer ontdekken
Dit meer, dat het grootste no-kill meer van Frankrijk is, zal ook vissers aanspreken, met name voor het vissen op snoek en baars.
