Op de Duitse begraafplaats van Consenvoye in de Maasvallei, 20 km ten noordwesten van Verdun, rusten 1.148 soldaten en het is daarmee de grootste Duitse begraafplaats. In 1920 besloten de Franse autoriteiten om de Duitse soldaten die waren omgekomen tijdens de gevechten tussen Verdun en Stenay tijdens de 1e Wereldoorlog hier samen te brengen.
Het was hier, op 22 september 1984, dat de Duitse bondskanselier Helmut Kohl en de Franse president François Mitterrand samen hun eer betoonden. In 2016 zullen François Hollande en Angela Merkel de begraafplaats samen bezoeken.
