Valérie Bornand, die oorspronkelijk een sculpturale achtergrond had, is sinds 2013 naast tekenen en papierknippen bezig met grafiek. Zij ziet een aantal overeenkomsten in de praktijk van beeldhouwen en graveren. Direct snijden verwijdert materiaal, net als graveren op koperplaat. Werken met gravure of bronssculptuur houdt in dat je met andere materialen werkt en een proces ontwikkelt dat niet meteen leidt tot het uiteindelijke object. Dit is wat de kunstenaar leuk vindt.
