Het versterkte complex in Villard werd vanaf de 12e eeuw gebouwd door de bisschoppen van Mende. Het was een verdedigingswerk dat werd gebouwd om het kasteel van Chanac te beschermen.
De overblijfselen van de donjon dateren uit de middeleeuwen, maar het massieve gebouw met kruisvensters dateert uit de 16e eeuw.
De Romaanse kerk werd herbouwd in de gotische periode en is versierd met muurschilderingen.
