gedrukt materiaal (boeken, tijdschriften, kranten, bladmuziek)
audio (cd's, audioboeken)
video (DVD)
gedigitaliseerd of online (Bibliovox, 1D Touch, Philharmonie de Paris, e-readers)
-hulp en initiatie bij het zoeken naar informatie (online catalogus op internet, hulp aan gebruikers bij hun onderzoek, internetopleiding)
-uitlenen van documenten (boeken, tijdschriften en kranten, taalmethoden, cd's, bladmuziek, dvd's, leesapparatuur, enz.)
-promotie van de collecties die zij aanbiedt, met name via een beleid van culturele activiteiten (conferenties, tentoonstellingen, klassenbezoeken, verhalenbijeenkomsten, enz.)
In het algemeen wordt de toegang voor iedereen tot alle media en in het bijzonder tot de nieuwe informatie- en communicatiemedia (met name via een digitale openbare ruimte) bevorderd.
