Aan het begin van de 18e eeuw maakte hertog Louis II de Rochechouart-Mortemart gebruik van zijn heerlijkheid om markten en markten toe te staan. De markthal dateert mogelijk uit deze periode. De hal is rechthoekig en open en bestaat uit 12 eiken palen die een geraamte van vier spanten ondersteunen. Het dak is gemaakt van grachtenpannen. Het werd in 2013 gerestaureerd. Tot de Tweede Wereldoorlog werden er in Mortemart maandelijks belangrijke beurzen gehouden.
