De fontein werd waarschijnlijk aan het eind van de 19e of het begin van de 20e eeuw gemaakt.
De gebeeldhouwde groep die samen deze monumentale fontein vormt, is een gietijzeren kopie van het beroemde grafmonument voor het hart van Henri II van de beeldhouwers Germain Pilon (de gebeeldhouwde groep zelf) en Dominique Florentin (de sokkel), dat bedoeld was om in de kerk van het klooster Célestins in Parijs te worden geplaatst en in het Louvre-museum terechtkwam onder de Restauratie.
De symboliek van de Drie Gratiën gaat terug tot de mythologie. De dichter Hesiod beschrijft drie godinnen: Aglaia (vertegenwoordigt pracht en praal), Euphrosyne (vreugde) en Thalia (overvloed). Samen vertegenwoordigen ze een schoonheidsideaal.
