De Royal Exchange, de beurs van Londen, werd opgericht door koopman Thomas Gresham. Hij was als handelaar actief in Antwerpen en pikte daar het idee op om een beurs op te richten. Hier bevindt zich nu de centrale bank van Engeland of The Bank of England. Er is nog een link met België. De eerste gouverneur van de Bank of England, John Houblon, was de zoon van een Hugenoot die uit Henegouwen vluchtte. De gouverneur zelf was gerouwd met de dochter van een Vlaamse imigrant. Toen hij in 1712 stierf werd hij begraven in de kerk van St.Christopher-le-Stocks.
