Als je van wijn houdt dan ben je waarschijnlijk in deze boom geinteresseerd: de Aleppoden of Pinus halepensis. Je kunt een paar grote exemplaren van deze soort aantreffen in Syngrou park.
De Grieken gebruikten het sap van deze boom om aan de binnekant van amforen te smeren omdat amforen poreus zijn. Dit is de oorsprong van de merkwwardige smaak van Retsina wijn. Omdat de Grieken zo aan de smaak gewend waren voegt men nu nog steeds sap van deze den toe, maar het sap heeft dus zijn oorspronkelijke functie verloren.
