Hoewel het grootste deel van Mount Za uit marmer is opgebouwd, is de laag onder het marmer deze typische gelaagde, metamorfe leisteen: schist. Het is deze laag die functioneert als een aquitard, een laag met een lage permeabiliteit. Het marmer heeft karstverschijnselen (ondergrondse drainagesystemen met zinkgaten en grotten) en voegen die het water doorlaten. Het marmer fungeert als een watervoerende laag. Je zult op dit niveau een belangrijke bron opmerken tussen de twee soorten gesteente een beetje verder op het pad.
