Taenarum, ook bekend als Tainaron, Taenarus of Tainaros, was een oude stad in Laconië, gelegen op 40 stadia, ofwel 8 km, ten noorden van de landengte van het schiereiland Taenarum. Een grot nabij Taenarum werd beschouwd als de ingang naar de onderwereld, waar Heracles Cerberus doorheen sleepte tijdens zijn twaalfde werk, en waar Orpheus Eurydice weer tot leven bracht. Vanwege deze associatie werd de onderwereld door klassieke schrijvers vaak aangeduid als "Tenarus".
