Gytheio is de locatie van het oude Cranae, een klein eiland waar volgens de legende Paris of Troy en Helen from Sparta hun eerste nacht samen doorbrachten voordat ze naar Troje vertrokken, waardoor de Trojaanse oorlog begon. Gytheio of Gythio, ook het oude Gythium of Gytheion, is een stad aan de oostelijke oever van het schiereiland Mani en een voormalige gemeente in Laconia, Peloponnesos, Griekenland. Sinds de hervorming van de lokale overheid in 2011 maakt het deel uit van de gemeente East Mani, waarvan het een gemeentelijke eenheid is. De gemeentelijke eenheid heeft een oppervlakte van 197.313 km2. Het was de zeehaven van Sparta, zo'n 40 kilometer naar het noorden.
