Grizokabos betekent "Grijze Vallei". Het dorp dankt haar naam aan de grijze flysch die hier op de noordelijke valleiwand te zien is. Flysch is een sterk gelaagd gesteente met afwisselend zandsteen en schalie of leisteen. Vooral de schalie, gemaakt van zeeklei zorgt voor de grijze kleur. De flysch is ontstaan onder water, in de buurt van de kustlijn toen enorme hoeveelheden materiaal uit de bergen erodeerden en afgezet werden in de zee. Dit gesteente wordt geassocieerd met gebergtevormingsfases.
