Hier is het pad overgroeld door hoge jeneverbes struiken of juniperus en kruip je door een corridor van planten. Als de plantengroei hoger is dan jezelf noemt men die vegetatie maquis. Je kent ongetwijfeld het woord maquisards voor verzetstrijders.
De Maquisards werden zo genoemd omdat zij zich verscholen in het dichte struikgewas (Frans: maquis) van het Franse platteland om van daaruit guerrilla-oorlog te voeren tegen de Duitse bezetter tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Hun naam verwijst direct naar deze natuurlijke schuilplaatsen waar ze zich verborgen om het verzet te organiseren en uit te voeren.
Laag struikgewas wordt Phrygana (φρύγανα) genoemd.
