De Glyde ontspringt in de stad Bailieborough in Cavan, de bovenste delen staan soms bekend als de Lagan-rivier, maar na de samenvloeiing met de Killanny-rivier wordt hij uitsluitend de Glyde genoemd. Een andere zijrivier is de River Dee. De Glyde stroomt in een zuidoostelijke richting voordat hij de zee bereikt bij Annagassan in Louth, de locatie van de recent herontdekte negende-eeuwse Viking langphort Linn Duachaill.
