De U-2511 was één van de laatste actieve XXI-type onderzeeboten van de Duitse Kriegsmarine tijdens en op het laatst van de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Ze stond onder bevel van korvettenkapitein Adalbert Schnee. Deze XXI- en XXIII-boten moesten de oorlog voor de Duitsers een nieuwe succeswending geven tijdens de vijf laatste maanden van de oorlog. Dit bleek echter niet zo te zijn. Deze XXI en XXIII-boten kwamen overigens te laat in de oorlog.
Februari 1945 - Er vertrokken 41 U-boten uit de noordelijke bases, de meeste naar Het Kanaal. Hun prestaties stelden teleur. Ze slaagden er slechts in 7 schepen, waaronder 2 escorteschepen, tot zinken te brengen, in Het Kanaal en 3 in de Ierse Zee.
Andere successen in de westelijke toegangswegen brachten het totaal op 11 vrachtschepen, maar ten koste van 12 U-boten.
