De kerk is gelegen op 1,6 kilometer west-nordwest van het dorp Kildimo, in het westelijke deel van de Maigue-vallei, ten zuidwesten van Dromore Lough en Bleach Lough.
Samuel Lewis beweerde ten onrechte dat het werd gebouwd door de Tempeliers in 1290. Anderen dateren de kerk echter voor 1100, zelfs al in de 5e eeuw n.C. De meeste geleerden dateren het naar de 9e eeuw.
