Het Dingle-schiereiland is vernoemd naar de stad Dingle. Het schiereiland wordt ook vaak Corca Dhuibhne (Corcu Duibne) genoemd, zelfs wanneer degenen die ernaar verwijzen in het Engels spreken. Corca Dhuibhne, wat "zaad of stam van Duibhne" betekent (een godin uit de Ierse mythologie en een Ierse clannaam), verwijst naar de túath ( mensen, natie) van Corco Dhuibhne die het schiereiland in de Middeleeuwen bezette en die ook een aantal gebieden in het zuiden en oosten van County Kerry bezat.
